How CDU Pipe Straightening Determines the Reliability of Liquid-Cooled Data Centers
As NVIDIA’s AI computing platforms—such as the GB200 and Vera Rubin—fully transition to liquid cooling, per-rack power has surged from tens of kilowatts to the megawatt level, making the CDU (Coolant Distribution Unit) the “heart” of modern intelligent computing centers.
What keeps this heart beating steadily are the stainless steel cooling pipes running throughout and around the racks. These seemingly unremarkable pipes are precisely what determine the delivery quality of liquid cooling projects. They carry high-pressure, high-flow coolant circulation, and any deviation in pipe diameter, bending deformation, or misaligned joints can lead to abnormal pressure drops, seal failures, and assembly difficulties. High-precision straightening is the first critical gateway in CDU piping manufacturing.
The Application
CDU pipes (shown in video): W76 mm x H76 mm x L2000 mm, and customer-required straightness of 0.2 mm.

Straightening Machine Characteristics
Straightening Machine Characters:
- with 15 Ton moving press.
- Suitable Max.Pipe length: 3000mm
- With 15 pieces of the linear displacement sensors
- Suitable highest straightness: 0.05mm
What the Sensor Count Means in Practice
Fifteen linear displacement sensors along a 3-meter pipe mean the machine does not interpolate the bend from a few sampled points; it measures the profile densely enough that the correction targets the tube as it actually is. On a 2-meter square tube with a 0.2 mm tolerance, the difference matters: sparse measurement can drive the average straightness into tolerance while leaving a local deviation outside it, and the customer gauge will find exactly that deviation.
A 15-ton moving press with 0.05 mm capable straightness covers both ends of the CDU pipe problem: enough force to correct a stiff square stainless section in a controlled pass, and enough resolution to finish at tolerances tighter than the 0.2 mm the frame requires, leaving margin for everything that happens to the pipe after straightening.

This pipe straightening machine can be supplied with CE certification, which is a practical requirement for integration into European data center equipment supply chains.
Why Stainless CDU Pipes Deserve a Dedicated Setup
The pipes that carry coolant through and around AI racks are thin-walled stainless sections, long relative to their stiffness, and marked easily. Straightening them is not a scaled-down version of straightening solid bar: the wall can ovalize under a support sized for solid stock, the surface finish matters for weld inspection downstream, and the 0.2 mm tolerance applies over two meters. A machine configured for this family measures the section as a section, supports it as a thin-walled part, and presses with force control rather than displacement alone.
Delivery sequence also differs from general tube work. CDU pipework is often cut, bent and welded near final assembly, which means straightening has to fit into a fabrication flow rather than sit upstream of it as a batch operation. The machine layout above, with its press and sensor arrangement on one bed, is designed for that placement.
