Why Square Pipes Deserve Their Own Setup
A square pipe is not a round pipe with corners. The flats give it two different bending stiffnesses, so the same press produces different correction in the two directions; the corners concentrate stress and mark more easily than a round surface; and square tubes can twist as well as bend, which a plain two-axis setup will chase without ever correcting. What the Cycle Time Buys You
The 60-240 s per-piece cycle spans the easy case and the difficult one: a pipe with a single modest bend finishes at the fast end, while a pipe with multiple bend directions or a twist component runs longer because it needs more measured presses. Spreading that range across a real batch, the automatic machine delivers something the manual bench structurally cannot: the slow parts and the fast parts come out with the same verified result, and the sorting gate decides the difference instead of an operator at the end of a long shift.
The reject path is part of the value. A pipe that cannot be brought inside tolerance is discharged automatically with an alarm, which does two things at once: it keeps out-of-tolerance parts out of the good bin, and it counts them, so the upstream process that produced an excess of difficult pipes gets noticed through data rather than through a customer complaint. Over weeks, that count is one of the more honest indicators of how the welding or cutting upstream of straightening is actually running.
